Jamaica Bob Griffiths

Originally from the island of Jamaica, Bob comes to our country with a variety of talents.  Having studied music since the age of five, he brings to his concerts and residencies a wealth of musical experience.

His first instrument was the piano which he studied until he taught himself the guitar at age twelve. From there he studied the tuba and eventually went on to be the student conductor for his high school’s concert band.  After touring nationally as a bass player and vocalist with the gospel group Heritage Singers, Bob returned to become active in college and community activities.

By combining the use of computers in both the composition and performance of music, Bob has been able to tour nationally as a solo artist, as well as regionally with several groups.  His favorite, though, would have to be the show that takes him back to his roots, JAZZ Caribe.

JAZZ Caribe is an amusing musical tour of the islands.  Along the way, the listener is treated to vocal and instrumental arrangements of authentic calypso, soca, reggae and latin jazz favorites.  Audience participation, another West Indian tradition, is alive and well in JAZZ Caribe.  The audience can be sure it will be involved in anything from sing-alongs to on stage dance numbers.

Besides JAZZ Caribe, Bob has also created Calypso for Kids.  This program, which has been presented for schools in eleven (11) states, shares the West Indian culture in an interactive way so that the students not only listen but become part of the show.

In addition to performing, Bob is currently a multi-cultural performing artist with the Arts Council of San Bernardino and the Riverside Arts Foundation where he participates in arts education activities.  He is also the Director of Worship, Arts and Media for Riverside Community Church.

Bob has been an Instructor in Technology Education for the Colton Joint Unified and the Riverside Unified School Districts as well as Instructor of Music at Riverside Community College in the area MIDI and computer assisted music.  Bob also served as the Entertainment Committee chair for the Riverside Orange Blossom Festival.

Besides his interest in music, Bob has a B.S degree in Physical Science from La Sierra University.  He also enjoys outdoor activities, sports like basketball and Masters Track & Field.  He enjoys family time with his wife Rebecca and their three young sons.
